Cover Story - Top 12 Rip Hunter Covers

You know, I’m really going to have to figure out some way to thank CW because I’ve managed to wring so many articles out of Legends of Tomorrow it’s ridiculous.  That’s one of the glorious things about a show with as many superheroes with rich and vibrant heroes as Legends of Tomorrow, though it certainly helps having a lot of avenues to discuss the various heroes on the series.  For now it’s time to look at covers once more, this time zeroing in on the leader of the Legends: Rip Hunter.

Originally created in 1959, Rip Hunter enjoyed a fairly successful solo run in the early ‘60s before fading into obscurity till the 2010s when he popped up in the massively successful 52 comic.  Since then, Rip has been elevated to a constant of the DCU and the comic book equivalent of Doctor Who, that is until Silver Surfer replaced him in that category but that’s a story for another article.  For now, let’s dive into the shallow end and get the cover story on Rip Hunter, Time Master.

Panel Vision - The Origins of Devil Dinosaur

Edited by Robert Beach

Based on the monster success of Jurassic World, the hype for Pixar’s upcoming The Good Dinosaur, and the knee-jerk reactionary nature of geek media reporting that I so thrive in, dinosaurs are about to be the next big thing. Even if that’s not the case, Marvel comics certainly seems to think so as they’ve green lit a new comic iteration of the 1978 character Devil Dinosaur.

This new comic will revolve around the adventures of Devil Dinosaur in modern day as he pals around with his new human friend Moon Girl, a young black girl. This is great news for me because I’ve been a fan of Devil Dinosaur since high school, but it occurs to me a lot of folks excited about this announcement don’t know much about the classic Devil Dinosaur. Allow me to enlighten you.

Jurassic World 2 Announced

So, after crushing the box office, breaking all the records, and generally just making Marvel look especially incompetent Jurassic World has been issued a sequel, set for June 22, 2018.  2018 is shaping up to be a major year in geekdom but that’s overall to be expected.  Culturally speaking we’re all living very much in the shadow of 2008, that was the year the Marvel cinematic universe began as well as the year of the Dark Knight.  What’s more that whole era in history from 2007-2010 gave rise to a number of forces that still dominate popular culture like the rise of streaming video and social media as well as the birth of the zombie craze.  2018 marks 10 years of living in the world 2008 made and is brining a ton of competition with it for the follow up to Universal’s latest dinosaur smash.

Movie Monthly - Jurassic World

Welcome back to Movie Monthly where I spend an entire month spotlighting entries in a niche genre of films.  Normally I don’t like to focus on big, well-known films unless I feel they’ve been overlooked or forgotten but this is a special case.  The whole reason I decided to make this first month of Movie Monthly ‘Jurassic June’ was because Jurassic World premiered this month so it would feel a bit disingenuous not to cover it here.  With that said let’s dive right in.
