It seems these days that cyber-warfare and computer hacking have become newly popular plotlines.  A lot of that is just a reflection of the real world- as the amount of data we generate in the virtual space grows in concordance with our reliance on outdated security systems we’re going to keep seeing things like the Equifax data breach, the Russian cyber attacks on the US election, and major state secret leaks like those made by Chelsea Manning.  It’s only natural that parallels to these events have formed in the narratives of shows like Homeland, Berlin Station, and most pertinently Mr. Robot. 

However, this is hardly the first time hacking has come to grip the public imagination- that was in the ‘90s.  Stuff like The Net and Hackers were capitalizing on the public’s fascination with cyber shenanigans at the very dawn of the information super-highway.  A lot of these ‘90s offerings are pretty cheesy and dated in hindsight, much like the ‘90s flirtation with early VR, there is, however, one exception- 1992’s The Hacker Files.

Top 12 Disney Infinity Characters We Didn't Get

By now, you may have heard that Disney Infinity, the thoroughly popular Disney video game franchise, is being discontinued. If you’ve never heard of it before, Disney Infinity was a bold experiment from the Mouse House to get in on the growing trend of toys integrated into video games. The concept (selling kids action figures that also act as playable characters in a video game) originated with Skylanders before Disney picked up on it, and now even Nintendo has gotten in on the act. 

Previously, when a Disney adventure like this failed, it was an indication of the companies plan to purchase a more successful iteration of the same concept; the way the failure of Disney’s boy brand action films prompted them to buy Marvel and Star Wars. While some have speculated this will happen again, that’s not today’s subject. Today, we mourn the Disney Infinity characters we’ll never get to see now that the line is discontinued. Let the requisitely somber top 12 list commence.

Earlier this week I posted a list of comic book properties I thought Star Trek should crossover with next.  While making that list I started thinking about other things Trek should crossover with, a not uncommon occurrence given my status as an avid Trek-cionado.  So I came up with another 15 non-comic book properties that Star Trek should crossover with next now that it’s already crossed into Planet of the Apes, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, G.I. Joe, and Transformers.  Let us list them.
