So, the Alien franchise has, in classic form, given birth to a new monster in Alien: Covenant.  To celebrate the 6^th film in the Aliens franchise and the series’ seeming new lease on life in the 2010s I thought I’d look back at its most populated media frontier: comic books.  Yes, there were a metric ton of Alien comics published in the wake of Alien 3, which at the time seemed like the end of the franchise forever as “reboots” didn’t really seem like a thing yet back in 1992.  The main force behind the slew of Aliens branded books was Dark Horse, one of the B-list publishers now after clawing their way up from the C-list thanks to being the folks behind Hellboy. 

They’ve always made their bread and butter in adaptations and tie-in comics, and they milked the Alien franchise for everything it was worth, to the point they’re still putting out comics in this franchise now.  Seriously, there are 6 omnibuses worth of Alien comic material, which makes it all the more tragic that they’re so bad.  I dug through all of them in preparation for this review and found exactly two mini-series worth your time.  There was the enjoyably weird Aliens: Stronghold, which I’ll probably get to someday, and today’s focus, the unequivocal best of the bunch- Aliens: Genocide.  

Cover Story - Top 12 Preacher Covers

So, AMC’s Preacher show premieres tomorrow.  It’s a pretty big deal, the first major comic adaptation by AMC after their phenomenally successful adaptation of Walking Dead.  Additionally, it represents the first time Seth Rogen has thrown his considerable weight behind a television series, no less an adaptation of one of the goriest and edgiest comic books to come out of DC Comics mature reader’s imprint Vertigo. 

Finally, this is the 2^nd time someone has attempted to adapt a Verigo Comic to the small screen after the abysmal failure of last year’s Constantine, making this a second shot at success for the vast amount of properties at Vertigo.  Given all that, and that it’s another comic book show for me to leach hash tags off of, of course I’m going to celebrate it and what better to do that then with a look at the comics the show is based on.  So, let’s dive into the shallow end and get the cover story on Preacher’s 12 best covers.

Cover Story - Top 15 Deadpool Covers

Last Friday marked the premiere of the Deadpool movie. I haven’t seen it yet, but the early buzz is very positive, and it’s apparently on track to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Personally, I’ve never been a huge Deadpool fan, though I’m not going to begrudge anyone who does enjoy the merc with a mouth’s antics.  

He’s a hyper-active, unkillable lunatic with complex relationship with self-awareness. Having seen Freakazoid, Bugs Bunny, and the Mask, I get why that would be popular.  Given that Deadpool’s had a number of comics through the years, and I run a cover blog, let’s dive into the shallow end and get the cover story on the top 15 Deadpool comic covers.
